During National Carers Week in October, Carers Tasmania’s service arm Care2Serve launched a new resource designed to support those caring for older Tasmanians.
Developed in collaboration with celebrity and author Jean Kittson, the “Caring for Older Tasmanians” series features six interactive, self-paced modules that are available online on the Care2Serve website for free.
These modules are aimed to equip Tasmania’s unpaid family and friend carers with the knowledge and tools they need to confidently care for an older Tasmanian (elder).
The “Caring for Older Tasmanians” modules cover the essential topics:
- Prepare to Care – Guides carers through planning for an older Tasmanian’s needs, helping them to live their best life possible.
- Physical and Mental Health – Offers support in managing health concerns while helping elders to retain control over their health decisions.
- Staying at Home – Provides insights into enabling and supporting older Tasmanians to remain living safely and comfortably at home.
- Respite and Residential Aged Care – Assists in navigating residential care options, from temporary respite to permanent care.
- Planning for Life and End of Life – Provides a practical guide to planning for the future and who can help. It also covers preventative measures to help protect our elders from abuse and online scams.
- Caring for the Carer – Focuses on self-care strategies for carers and discusses the importance of carers’ wellbeing.
Jean Kittson, who wrote the book, “We Need to Talk About Mum & Dad: A Practical Guide to Parenting Our Ageing Parents” is a trusted and familiar voice in Australia’s caring community.
